With more people staying home and using their phones and laptops more as a result of lockdown older people in Ireland are no different. A volunteer helpline, Generation Tech was set up during lockdown to offer technical support to people over 65.
The helpline is open daily from 8am-8pm and can be contacted on 01-9633288.
The phone line opened back in March when Ireland first went into lockdown. The helpline has received hundreds of calls since then. Generation Tech (formerly known as Covid19Tech) plan to continue to make this service available post Covid-19 as a result of renewed sponsorships with Zendesk, Twilio and Blacknight.
A spokesperson for Generation Tech says, “technology can be daunting for many older people and we are here to make the experience less difficult. All technical questions are welcome. No question is too big or too small.”
The helpline provide guidance and support with internet connectivity, video calling, printers, mobile phones etc. They also help with installing the Covid tracker app.
